Properties of Nylon Webbings Vs Polypropylene Webbings

You need a webbing but confused which one to get as there are numerous varieties of webbings in the market that can be selected for your requirement. Webbings are the small & narrow fabrics that are used as bag straps, seat belts, collars for animals etc. The kinds of webbings are cotton webbing, nylon webbing, polypro webbings, jute, plastic, vinyl & rigid webbings. The most common webbings are nylon webbings & polypro webbings , a short form of polypropylene webbings. Here we will discuss these two popular categories of webbings so that you can understand the difference between these two types before buying.

Properties & Uses of Nylon Webbings
Nylon webbings are the most popular that come in standard colors consisting of black, red, yellow, navy blue, white & green but these can also be tailor made. Nylon webbings are very strong and durable  having 4,200 to 5,500 pounds of tensile strength in the width of 1 to 1-1/2 inch. Tensile strength determines the average breaking point under factory conditions. The melting point for nylon webbing is 450 degree F with good resistance to UV. These also have excellent resistance to mildew & abrasion. But if we talk about acids then it has the poor resistance for the acids. Nylon webbings can easily absorb water and can be stretched slightly when wet but these cannot float over water. Nylon webbing has longer life than polypro webbings.

Nylon webbings are best suited for marine and outdoor applications. These are also used as luggage straps, animal leads, in handbags and in different sport equipments.

Properties & Uses of Polypro Webbings
Polypro webbings come just in black color and not as strong as nylon webbings. These melt at 320 Degree F. Resistant to UV & mildew is same as that of nylon webbing but the resistance towards abrasion is lesser than nylon webbings. Tensile strength can vary from 600-1000 pounds and based on the width of polypro webbing.

Polypropylene webbings can resist acid, alkalies and oil & grease far better than nylon webbings. It is also cheaper than nylon webbings and can float over water. Thus propylene webbing are preferred in tying the batteries and used at placed where there is a possibilities of having direct contact with acids.

So now depending upon what you need is you can select the most appropriate webbing as both nylon and polypro webbings have numerous scope in terms of usage. For more information on the types of webbing you can visit Narrow Fabric Manufacturers.
